Slumdog Millionaire

Rating – ****

“Yay, colours, spices, dancing, sunshine… um… purple, green! Life is good, I’m happy! Tra la la” This is probably how you’ll feel as you leave the cinema having watched Slumdog Millionaire. Danny Boyle proves once again that he is a unique talent, unafraid to try something potentially awful. Who’d have thought that Who Wants to be a Millionaire: The Movie would be such a fulfilling experience? The only potential drawback is the insane and unexpected level of acclaim that Slumdog is currently enjoying. Best Picture nominations, a strong position on IMDB’s top 250… Let these accolades leave your mind, they create too much expectation. I probably fell victim to this phenomena and it does the film a disservice. All you need to know is that Boyle has crafted a loving tribute to life itself, bursting with vibrant energy. His assured direction and a great cast deliver everything you could want from two hours sitting in the dark with strangers.
