There Will Be Blood

An instant landmark in cinema history. Gripping from the very first frame. There Will Be Blood already feels like a classic from decades ago. In many ways it recalls Stanley Kubrick’s work. This is a bleak world with a emotionally detached protagonist played to perfection by Daniel Day-Lewis. Believe the hype, he really is THAT good. There’s a menace behind his eyes. And much like the oil he craves, it’s building up pressure beneath the surface, waiting to be unleashed. The soundtrack is disturbing and again reminds me of a Kubrick film. The finale is so well played by Day-Lewis and Paul Dano (equally incredible throughout) it makes you laugh nervously one second before shocking you with the brutality. Having watched it several time, I rank There Will Be Blood as one of my personal all time favourites. This is pure cinema!
