Iron Man

For most of it’s running time this is close to popcorn perfection. Jon Favreau has worked hard to develop proper characters and the pacing is excellent. Robert Downey Jr is wonderful, and so is Jeff Bridges. However, somewhere around the 3rd act everything gets a bit sloppy. All the coherent plotting and nuanced performances are forgotten and we end up rushing into a typical superhero smackdown in the dark. It’s almost as if the studio stepped in an said “Um, that’s quite enough proper film-making, hurry up with the explosions. Oh and wrap it up quickly”
Despite these flaws, I liked Iron Man. It’s just a shame it drops the ball slightly near the end as it was on course to be a true classic of the Superhero genre
