Gone Baby Gone

A film dealing with challenging and often uncomfortable themes. The strong performances and straightforward direction from Ben Affleck ensure your interest is maintained. That is, despite the slightly episodic structure triggered by a couple of false resolutions at different points in the film. Just as you expect the credits to roll, the film picks up another thread and starts again. However, this all contributes to the real finale. There is a terrible choice to be made and it’s gripping to watch it unfold. The ultimate theme seems to be ‘nice guys finish last’ and that things don’t always end the way they should. This isn’t a million miles away from the themes explored in No Country For Old Men. However I didn’t feel as alienated and let down this time.
